I've been waiting for this day for quite awhile. I've now been at my postdoc for a year and with that comes a little raise. I only get paid once a month so that sucks but now at least I get an extra ~$200 a month, before taxes. They don't take taxes out of my check so I have to figure them out myself. So it's not a huge raise but I think after another year it'll be even better. It's just a nice feeling to come into work and see for sure that you're making more money. Yeah I get paid tomorrow.
Plus I got called in over the weekend and acquired a case and I get to work it up today since the vets I would normally hand it off to are out.
Somehow I started searching for people I know and ended up at this alumni site, Not Classmates. At least it's free and can get info unlike Classmates so I added my info even though I don't keep in touch w/ anyone from high school and never really did, well okay except rr which is so silly to think we even went to high school together but yep it's true and we're still freaking roommates no less! Found out this kid Aaron Miller was killed in a car wreck and his best friend was driving and under the influence of drugs or something. I didn't really know him, there were 700 people in my class, but I did recognize his picture.
It all started when I was searching for other people, including this guy Bernie that I had a thing with when I was 15 and he was 22. I found a picture of this guy at Microsoft that kinda looks like him but since I haven't seen him since he was 22 and now he's like 40 who knows for sure but seeing his picture did give me the creeps. I think it could be him but I'm reluctant to link to it because if it's not him I don't want to associate him w/ attempting to steal a 15 year old's virginity at 22 and his best friend was like 14. But he was hot and this guy at Microsoft looks kinda hot too so maybe...
There's also a picture online of my high school/college boy Ian from his law firm website but he looks so bald poor thing. He used to be so cute and had plenty of hair. I'll spare him too, for now at least.
since I haven't posted in a bit and there's so much to say who knows where to start. I should just go to bed since it's after 1am and I want to have a productive day since I've had so few lately. 'An American Werewolf in Paris' is on and I can't help but watch though it's 10 years old and I've seen it enough already.
Well that midterm I mentioned last week, well I bombed it! Now I'm almost forced to study for the final. I say forced because knowing me I still may not and just see what happens. This weekend I have to finish my lab assignment for Monday and the grant I have to write, well the deadline for the outline past already and the writing sample is due Monday and I've done nothing so far. Need to work on that this weekend too. My lovely little lab partner is in email communication w/ me to keep in touch w/ our answers on the lab assignment to make sure we know what we're doing.
I also have an Aug 24th deadline to present my AALAS presentation to my group. The conference isn't until late October but since I'll be on vacation the last 2 weeks of Sep. I need to present it early so I have time to make changes. Haven't worked on that yet either. Running out of time and since I'm only in the office once a week it's not like I can spend time at work on it. This weekend I'm on backup and the following two weekends I'm primary so I'll be working all day Sat. and Sun. so probably won't get much done those weekends.
The big TdeF time trial is tomorrow morning. I'm very excited for it since it'll probably determine who wins. I would like to see Discovery win and it looks good since we have first and third right now but it all comes down to tomorrow. I planned on getting up at 8am to watch but coverage goes to 11:30a and my roommates invited me to Simpsons early so it's only $6 and that's at 11:45a so I can't see the end of the Tour if I go to the movie, unless they saved me a seat and I ran real quick over there, since I only live minutes from the Commons movie theater.
Another dog walked into a biker today, Sandy Casar, but he managed to win the stage anyway. I've been looking for online video of this crash but haven't found any yet.
I did two 5 mile races last week. I hadn't done a race since my last marathon in October. The only reason I did the first one was because track got canceled for the race so I didn't want to miss a good workout so I signed up w/ my brf (best running friend) Tara. It was her first 5 mile race ever. We ended up staying together the whole time and staying steady at a nine minute/mile pace which is what we set out to do. No PR for me, I think mine is sub 8 minute pace but soon I hope to be back there. That race was a week ago Thursday and then I went home to Syracuse area on Friday and did another 5 mile race w/ my mom and Dedra on Saturday. Since I had only one day in between races, this race was in the morning versus Thursday's was at night and I didn't eat before the morning one, it was hotter that morning and the early, hot course was also rolling, I didn't do as well but I still managed a 3rd in my AG which is totally silly but oh well I'll take it.
Also got to hang out with Aunt Margaret and Grandma on Saturday which was the main reason to go home. It was a lot of work to take them out, Aunt Margaret can't walk and needs a wheelchair to get around and then you have to lift her literally almost dead weight :0) into the car and Grandma has Alzheimer's and doesn't always remember what the hell is going on. It's like hanging w/ some 2 year olds. Grandma has Aunt M's cat since Aunt M is in a rehab place though Grandma insists it's not Aunt M's cat and that the cat came into her apt. when she opened the door. We brought the cat to see Aunt M in the rehab place and I was hoping Grandma would keep her mouth shut but she had to tell Aunt M that that wasn't her cat. Luckily Aunt M can't hear that well and I don't think she really got what Grandma was saying. Anyway at least she got to see her cat and it seems Grandma has taken a tremendous liking to Peaches AKA Peachy-Boy. My mom commented that he had 2 moms and Grandma quickly chimed in saying No he only had one mother and that was her! Another funny thing Gram did was while eating Wendy's in the car, we couldn't take them into a restaurant because it'd be too difficult so we just got drive-through and drove around while we ate, she dropped the lettuce and tomato out of her burger onto the floor and long after she was done she noticed it on the floor and said someone must have left it in there from before and I told her that she had dropped it out of her sandwich and she said she didn't have tomato in her's and I said that's because she had dropped it. Poor Gram!
I also got to see my dad when I went home. We went to a little get together at his friends' place and I had lobster! Yummy, yummy!!!
My trip to France is coming together. I have my plane ticket from Boston to Paris. I have my rail tickets to meet my mom in the South of France as well as to get back to Paris and I have my hotel while I'm in Paris w/ Jen and James and my hotel for when I'm staying alone the last night before coming back to Boston. Now I just need to plan what I want to do there.
There's probably more but it's getting late.
So I have this midterm today and I decided not to go to the primate center but rather study, plus someone at work needed the blue van anyway and I would have to take the huge white one, so it worked out okay. So I'm at Harvard to study and right now I just got some lunch at the cafe in the science center. When I walked into the cafe I immediately see this guy and flip out in my head, maybe it showed externally, not sure, but he looks like my biostats professor from the Fall who I've only seen a couple times in person because it was an online class but w/ the combo of being a stats professor, I've wanted to do almost every math professor I've ever had, I wanted the Canadian that taught Calc I, Dr. Kleinberg for Calc II, the Calc III guy was ok, and maybe not so much my linear algrebra guy, and my biostats professor was kinda hot, though he should STOP wearing mock turtlenecks, they do nothing for him, but anyway, so I see this guy just now that looks like this professor and we have to pass by each other and I was probably staring at him and he said Hi to me but I was so freaked out I couldn't say anything and I'm not sure if it was him or not but if it was, maybe he recognized me from the two times maybe he's seen me in class, or maybe he was wondering why is this chick staring at me and just decided to say Hi. Then after that I couldn't get any food until I made sure he was gone. I got that instant 'I'm not hungry' feeling in my stomach. So I grabbed a quick sandwich and went to pay but saw him again so went and hid and put back the sandwich until the coast was clear and then went back and got the same sandwich. Now I'm writing this to absolutely make sure he's not around before I start stuffing my face, though I want to see him again so I can see if it's him and be courageous and talk to him.
This video is ridiculous! Only a lab would walk across the road w/ a zillion cyclists going by at 30 mph acting like he's out for a leisurely stroll around the French countryside, get hit full force causing the destruction of thousands of dollars of bike, and get up like nothing really happened and walk away while the biker is stunned on the pavement.
so I'm doing everything under the sun but study. Why am I such a loser when it comes to studying? I hate it! Though really it's just the class. If it's a mathy class then I'm all for it. Last Fall when I took biostats I was all over it and loved to do the work. I didn't have to study because I did all the other work and it was open book/open note and I ended up w/ over a 100% final grade I think, there was a little bonus. Piece of cake. Now I'm taking molecular bio for grad credit, took it in undergrad around 1998, but it's just one of those bio classes that suck and I hate and don't have an interest and don't want to study. How the hell did I end up w/ a BS in bio if I hate it so much, plus a DVM which was 4 more years of the same crap, I don't fucking know! I'd just rather watch the Tour right now even though I know who wins and I'm exhausted because I stayed up way too late last night doing nothing but eating candy and Coldstone so now I can't stay up late to study. Maybe tomorrow at work will be slow and I can study, though today was slow and I only got in a little studying.
So I'll probably watch the Tour until 11 and then go to bed and hope somewhere I get to study. Good thing no one seems to ask what my grades are in these classes that they (my PI and postdoc program) make me take, though I did get an A in biostats and the bacT class didn't have a grade, so for now my postdoc academic record is fine, until tomorrow I suspect...Plus I can always boycott. Postdocs don't take classes!!!! unless it's for another degree and in my case it isn't!
Ciao Bella sorbetto flavor Mango, so yum!!! I got it at Whole Foods on sale for $3 a pint. It's only ~97 calories for 1/2 cup, so that makes 4 servings per pint. You could even splurge and eat the whole thing and it'd be less than 400 calories. I've been counting calories for about a week or so and it's a pain in the ass but it really makes me think 3, 4, 5 times before putting something in my mouth, especially if it's going to up my daily intake too much. I'm not really resticting myself too much. I'm just keeping myself under 2000 calories. Most days between 1600-1800 cals though some days less. I had one bad day though in the beginning that was about 2100 cals. Anyway this is a great tasting low cal treat. Other flavors are probably great too! Funny thing is last night I was eating it and wanted to share it w/ Cleo because it was so good and about 30 seconds after I gave her about a teaspoon of it she puked a big pile of her dinner dog food. What's that all about!?
Gotta go. I'm at Harvard and need to get to class and the dudes using the computer next to me are way too annoying talking about MCATs and venture capital in some silly thing.
He did The Boy w/ the Thorn in His Side which is one of my favs. He also did How Soon Is Now which isn't one of my favs but everyone else seems to like it. He didn't do Fatty which I was hoping for but oh well. Otherwise the show was great and it worked out okay because we got to see him twice. I thought he would be mad at us as some people booed when he left the stage back a week and a half ago but he just gave a raspberry to those who got a refund. He dissed FoxNews, Republicans and said we shouldn't have a president. There were a couple of CRC people 2 rows ahead of me that I waved to.
After the show I met some other CRC people for dancing in Faneuil Hall. It was a really good time. I was skeptical but it turned out to be lots of fun. Too bad the solo man of the group is moving to San Fran. I'll have to call him up next time I go to visit Naomi. I met some guy from Morocco but I couldn't understand his name because it was too loud and not a common name and while we were dancing together he started ramming my ass too hard so I had to get away. Anyway got a slice of pizza when I got home and a diet Pepsi and now I'm watching the Prologue again since I fell asleep watching this afternoon.
Today's the day! Prologue today in London. GO GEORGE! (I forgot OLN is now Versus. Stupid name.) I have a full day today. Got up early this morning to meet the CRC for a long run. Tara and I ran together ~7.5 miles. Came home to fall asleep to the Prologue. I couldn't sleep last night because I have bad PMS cramps! So now I need a nap. I was supposed to go home this weekend for the Boilermaker but mid-week I found out Morrissey was re-scheduled for tonite so even though I took Friday and Monday off to go home and race and had paid for my race entry, I didn't want to miss the concert. I still won't believe it's happening until Morrissey shows up on stage since he's canceled so many shows since he walked off stage at our show. I hope with this time off he's able to perform ok. I'm sure he'll have some choice words for us after all this drama and I don't want to miss this rare opportunity. Straight from the concert I am then meeting some people to go dancing! Very exciting!! especially since I lost my dancing partner to motherhood last year but the latest I've found is moving to Cali so I'm still searching for more clubbing friends.
Thanks for stopping by!

Really?
Thanks, very nice of you.
First, check my Amazon.com Wish List and there's no need to worry that I already have it or won't use it.
Tip: Check around for better pricing. Amazon's pricing is usually good, but not always the best available.
A quick Froogle search can't hurt.
