Yay! Apparently I'm having the Best Week Ever!!

YOU SURVIVED A CRUSHING WORK SCHEDULE

YOU RAN A NEW PERSONAL RECORD FOR MILES

YOU FINALLY RECEIVED APPROVAL FOR YOUR DOG TO LIVE IN YOUR NEW APARTMENT

YOU ARE HAVING FRIENDS BY THE SCORE TO YOUR NEW HOME TO PARTY AND DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY

AND NOW YOU ARE PREPARING FOR A DREAM VACATION TO SUNNY AUSTRALIA

and that is why you, Heather Rose Martin, are having THE...BEST...WEEK...EVER!!

Thanks Mark! We'll have to meet up for beers when I get back. Just like we did after you got back from Japan and Washington State and France and all those other places you seem to go.

I just realized I ran 55.5 miles last week

That's my most ever! and it only took me 5 days to do it. No wonder my legs are tired this week. 10 miles last night seemed okay until I was done. Hope I survive track tonight and the 20 mile race on Sunday.

So far today is a good day, maybe even better than good

I'm virtually stress-free now that I've survived work, my move, and this morning I found out Cleo is accepted to my building. Time to move on to having fun again, unpacking and organizing my place and planning my trip to Australia. I haven't even been able to think much about it with all going on. I was also kinda keeping it a secret from some people because I didn't want them giving me crap about it. Well, cat's out of the bag and I just got shit about not planning my trip. I'm usually a big planner. I planned my France trip forever. Crazy that I just went to France 6 months ago and now Australia. So this morning I went to the Coop and got a travel book. I already found a place to go and cuddle koalas in Sydney. My trips usually revolve all around animals. My big thing to do in France was see the pygmy hippo baby at the Paris zoo. I don't get outwardly excited about many things in life but definitely for animals and my sports. Warning to DB, I act like Elmyra around the animals.

elmyra

So I will start planning my trip, I leave Tues. night. I also bought a couple other books and one I got very excited about. It's called 'Monkey Portraits' and the photos are amazing. I already ran all around work showing people. One of the vets is going to buy it for another vet so told me not to show it to him. I spent $80 at the Coop, probably would have been much less online but I wanted everything now! and I'm a Coop member so I'll get some money back eventually.

Gotta go plan :0)

Glad my 2 days of collaboration are over for now

I started singing "I See You Baby, shakin' that ass" to my microfilaria as I tried to count them. There were so many, virutally impossible to count at low power by eye but I tried my best and it drove me a little more insane, and my eyes hurt.

Better go run my 10 miles while I'm not thinking clearly.

Great way to end the season guys!

Perfect ending for an awful season. Blowing a 22 point lead to lose by 4 in the last seconds of the game...in the NIT quarterfinals, sheesh :0(

There goes my basketball season for another year.

Apparently I'm in spaz mode

I was rushing to get to my old place to hang out w/ pups and watch the SU game. I stopped at CVS at Charles/MGH like I do most days to get my soda and other snacks. The cashier guy is always there too. I put my stuff down at the register and he says 'Do I have to go as fast as you?' I guess I was moving real fast! I said I had to get home for the basketball game and he said 'You just got real hot to me real quick.' Dude, you see me almost every day and you didn't think I was hot before, haha. Funny thing is when I first saw him working there long time ago I thought for a second he was BBD. BBD is a guy Nina fixed me up w/ at K-State. She knew him from aikido and he saw me w/ her studying in the main campus library most days. We went on some dates but I didn't like how he led when we did salsa and I couldn't keep my mouth shut about it.

Go SU!

Quit 'Hi Honey'ing Me

I met you so many months ago, I forget when exactly, sometime in the Fall. Why are you now texting me w/ the 'Hi Honey' shit again? I am not your honey or your girlfriend or marrying you or whatever else you said that night. We had fun dancing, that was it! Okay, one text the next day, fine, I ignored it. Now all of a sudden you randomly do it every few days? Go away!

I'm finally done w/ day 1 of my big project at work. 12 hours, not too bad. I expected much worse. My collaborator is awesome and great to work w/ so it's made things less stressful. He's from Nepal, got his vet degree in India and PhD at LSU and now is doing a postdoc at LSU. He has a wife and twin 17 year old girls. He didn't seem old enough at first but I think I just need to look at him more carefully.

I got a message from admin woman at realty company that has been trying to help me. My realtor is coming back from vacation tomorrow. Apparently he called my landlord and everything is fine w/ lease and dog. Just waiting on approval of dog from building. I was supposed to check back today but I haven't had time w/ the work thing. I don't want to talk to my realtor. He is an ass and I hate him but I don't feel like screaming at him over the phone so I'll try to avoid him somehow, and still get my money back.

Mom also called from the SU game. They are destroying UMass and it's halftime. I need to get to a TV to watch some of the second half but I'm still at work.

Sorry Cleo, I just ordered your drugs

I've made the decision to start Cleo on clomipramine. I got the generic but there is a dog-specific formulation Clomicalm. It was about 60 cents more pure capsule though and she'll be taking 1-2 per day in the beginning and possibly double to triple that depending on how it works. I got 100 capsules for now. It takes awhile to kick in so I thought I'd start her now since there's plenty of anxiety to be had once rr and jenn start moving out and then she goes to Janet and Annie's while I'm on vacation and part of that will be in a kennel too so I think it might help her through all that, plus then when I get back from vacation hopefully she'll be coming to live w/ me in the new place. By then I should know how it's working and if I need to add something else to it or can take her off. I want her to be comfortable in my new place. Maybe this will help. I'm givin' it a try.

My first morning commute from Beacon St.

Not bad! Nice to walk out my place and see all the busy people and my next door neighbor the State House. Much more busy around there than Charles/MGH, even though that's kinda busy being a hospital and all. But Park St Station is a major hub so you can expect more anyway. My commute was a little longer, 2 stops instead of 1. My songs this morning were:

The Fray "Over My Head (Cable Car)

DM "A Pain That I'm Used To"

The Smiths "Nowhere Fast"

Kenna "Better Wise Up"

and 2 minutes of GNR "Rocket Queen"

Here's to my second night in new apt.

Mom and I slept quite well last night. Mom snuck out at 8:30 this morning to go get coffee and I got up to unpack. Got lots done in the 2 hrs Mom was gone. Then we showered up to get to The Beehive (remember my header photo of Montparnasse Cemetery?) by noon for our Easter brunch. Showing the tiredness from our weekend of running and moving.

memomnewapt

I got paged right before we left the apt. but luckily it wasn't an emergency. (I was going to go in after brunch but I got a call back saying I didn't need to. Phew! Close one.) Mom had the spinach quiche and I had the eggs shakshuka and a champagne cocktail. It was pretty good for nonsweet breakfast food. It's in a nice location and has live music. After brunch we walked back to Boston Common and got the truck, then to old apt. to get the rest of the little stuff, then back to new apt. to unload and get all my mom's stuff and rr's boxes. Mom brought lots of stuff w/ her including blowup mattress. Then we drove back to old apt. and I brought in the boxes and Mom took off for NY. I hung out w/ the puppies all afternoon until about 7:30 when I left for new apt. Sorry Cleo I hope you get approved soon and can come and live w/ me at the new place. Georgetown screwed me today and Slick Willy, actually Mr. Curry did. I had Gtown winning the whole thing. Oops. Well I have SU to watch in the quarterfinals of the NIT on Tues. against UMass.

Stopped at City Convenience before entering my building. They have an AllPoints ATM which is no fee for my ING debit card. Perfect! I got cash and Diet Coke and then used the cash to get my laundry card. The washers and dryers in my building take a card so you just put money on it and don't have to worry about quarters. So I got to do laundry here tonight. The laundry room is 2 doors away from mine. So convenient but only 2 washers and 2 dryers so I had to wait. While I waited I started putting my IKEA dresser together. Hard work. Spent a few hrs on it and still not done. Tomorrow I should finish. Still have putting away and organizing to do. Won't get anything done probably Tues and Wed because my collaborator for this experiment is coming then and we're shooting for 12+ hr days. I'll be exhausted after that I'm sure but won't have time at night to do much around the apt. My friend Kristen from high school will be in Boston Tues-Sat and wants to get together Thurs but that's track night. Maybe she and her new hubby can come out w/ us Friday night.

It's almost 1am and I'm exhausted. I need to get more sleep but I also want to watch Lost and eat candy.

Goodnight and hope you had a Happy Easter. My mom gave me an Easter basket :0)

Sunday, 23 March 2008

I survived the first night in my new apt.

Slept pretty well I think. Glad I had the energy to get my bed together last night. Have Easter brunch reservations at noon and I'm not sure where all my clothes are or anything. I think the only shoes I have are my kangaroos. Oops, shoulda brought nicer shoes. My mom went out to get coffee but she forgot the code to get in the front door. Not sure if she memorized it, I'm doubting it, so not sure why she forgot the code since it was such a hassle to get it. Hopefully someone will be coming in and she can get back in. Or I'll have to venture downstairs soon to see if she's stuck out there.

Have lots of unpacking to do but no energy. Feel a cold starting in my nose. Wanted to go to IKEA and clothes shopping but not sure I have the energy for it all. If my mom is up for it then maybe I'll go for it. It's hard to add more stuff to my place when I haven't put anything away yet. Getting crowded. And it needs to be cleaned and I don't have any cleaning stuff really so if I put stuff away into dirty cabinets and shelves I'll have to go back and clean the shelves and then clean my stuff too. Guess I'll have lots of work going on here for a long time.

Guess I'll go stack unpacking. Too bad I forgot my speakers at the old place. This silence is starting to get to me. I guess I can play music through my computer. That'll be loud enough in this tiny place.

Let me know if you want to come over for some unpacking. I can provide food and drink :0)

Acute kidney disease?

Oh, I almost started my weekend recap. Shouldn't really do that yet but can't help it. Mom came yesterday, got here around 5:30p. She picked me up at work and then we had to get all her stuff loaded into my old apt. and deal w/ the dogs, then get her truck in the Common garage and get to Beacon Hill Bistro by 7. We made it okay and had a great dinner while I tried to tell her the whole apt. fiasco. I needed a pomegranate bellini, half a bottle of wine and then 2 beers at the BHP to get it all out. Went to bed but couldn't fall asleep until like 2am and had to get up at 7am to go run 19 miles.

Took the T to Joslynn's and went on the run. Mom only had to do 10 miles but got lost on her way back so did more like 13 or so. Tara and I plugged through 19 miles. It wasn't too bad but definitely painful by the end. We were the last to finish because the rest of the team either didn't run that far or runs super fast. We were running for about 3 hrs 10 min. Got back to Jos' for breakfast and then made it home where I had the awful decision of moving into the new place or not.

Finally about 2:30 decided to do it. It was only me and mom doing the moving. It was so tough. I was already drained from running 19 miles and then spent the next 6+ hrs moving. It was torture. I'm not sure how my body made it through all the lifting and the up the stairs down the stairs but most of my stuff is now in the new apt. Now I just have the lovely task of unpacking it all. At least I got my bed put back together. The concierge today is awesome! I told him kinda the quick version of my situation and he was very helpful. Everything is still not squared away w/ my dog so she's living at my old place w/ Rob and Jenn until they move next week and hopefully my new apt. Board accepts her. At least now I'm living here and can hound the building manager to get all my stuff figured out w/ this place. I've left several messages for my landlord contact and he just won't return my calls. The drama is not over but I have a place to sleep tonight.

We had awesome pizza at Upper Crust finally around 9:30 after we had the moving done. Didn't eat anything since the breakfast and weren't really drinking all day either so I feel like I have acute kidney failure. Now I'm drinking beer and getting ready to munch on the Easter basket my mom whipped up for me. Got some toilet paper, Diet Coke, the beer and cookies next door at City Convenience as those are the necessities! What else can I say? I'm exhausted!! and want to sleep forever, but I miss my Cleo! I hope you will be with me real soon Beakey Woo!!

Sorry blog, I haven't forgotten about you

Hope I haven't lost a bunch of readers by not posting. Lots has happened this week, especially today w/ my whole new apt. thing. Turns out my realtor was an ass and didn't disclose lots of things to me about my apt. and now he's on vacation. One of the things being my dog needs to be approved by the Board of Trustees of my building. My mom is coming tonight to help me move and now I'm not sure I'm really moving in. Who knows how long it takes to get your dog approved. I had to write a letter to the Board which I did tonight and give proof of vaccinations so I have to turn that all in tomorrow. Plus the apt. was supposed to be cleaned and repaired, ready to move in March 15th since that's when I started paying rent but it's the 21st and it still hasn't been cleaned and repaired. What a mess!

March Madness has started and I can't enjoy it. Didn't have much time to make my picks either. So far I'm doing okay, thanks to the K-State upset. I'm tied for 2nd in the CRC standings. Syracuse is top-ranked in the NIT and made it to the quarterfinals so far.

Been running so much lately. It's great but my legs are so sore. Not ready for 19 miles on Saturday but looking forward to running w/ my mom and eating a great breakfast at Joslynn's since she's hosting.

"I'm just sayin'" (haha T)

Ran by Varsity tonight on my run home from track. I saw this guy turn his head while I was running by and watching me and then I realized it was Varsity. haha, I was polite and waved. Haven't been out in so long I miss everyone! Maybe I'll take my mom to the BHP tomorrow night if we have time. She'd like it there.

Hey Diddy, you got me to spend $1.98 on DK.

Weekend Recap: "i LIKE dirty"

That's my quote for today, and will probably end up in the quotes sidebar w/ my others. It came up in a conversation about Mariah Carey.

I want to apologize to all my friends for being so lame lately. Believe me, I would much rather be going out w/ you guys like usual, but I'm trying to be a little more responsible. You know I haven't been getting much work done, and now w/ going on vacation, I really need to step it up. Plus, I've just put a big chunk of money, about $5,000 so far, on my credit card to get my new apt. and plane ticket, etc. I could use to save some money too. If interested, I will go out this Wed. night since I'll get my presentation over that day. I just need to run 9 miles first.

On Friday I went to Whole Foods straight from work to get something for dinner. Got more meat for burgers and some Wisconsin cheddar, sweet potato fries. Had a good dinner before I ventured out to get some laundry done. Could be my last time doing laundry at the laundromat. Why can't I remember what else I did? Oh, I think I caught up on Lost and Survivor. Had to diss Jos several times and felt bad but I couldn't help it.

Got up early Sat. morning to go running w/ CRC but it was raining pretty hard so I texted Tara to ask if she still wanted to go. I didn't really want to run for 2 hours in the rain and then have to work all day. By the time she called me back she was almost at the run already. I could have met her on Charles St. since they were running by my place but I backed out. Did go to my new apt. since it was the 15th. Brought some stuff over too. Found that the guy that was fixing it up left a note saying he'd be back Monday to finish. I got all depressed because it was much smaller than I thought and some stuff wasn't so good. Left wishing I never went because I had to go to work and all I could think about was my place and the reasons why I was such a loser. Yes I have a bad, negative attitude and quickly go to my 'i wanna kill myself' place. I'm all too comfortable there. Finally made it to work and did get some stuff done. Yay! Got a call from DB in the outback :0) I like when he calls me, I get a little bit happier, though I doubt you can tell. Had to leave work to go to S&S for Jennie's bday. Got to hang out w/ my fellow postdocs and their significant others who I felt like I knew because I hear so much about them but hadn't met any of them, and met some of Jennie's other friends. Had some blueberry pancakes and then ice cream at Christina's: burnt sugar. Got a ride home and was going to go to bed kinda early, had a race today, but got talking to my roomies. Yes, rr and I were talking for the first time in months. Maybe we can still be friends after all. Talked until almost 2am.

Got up at 9am today for my 5k in Davis Sq. Decided to run there so I'd get in more miles. It was only 4.5 miles from my place in Beacon Hill to Davis Sq. You'd think it'd be longer but nope, you can basically run anywhere around here and it's probably quicker than the T. Got to the meeting spot early and then started freezing because I was sweaty and just standing there. Tara was having trouble w/ parking and she had my chip and number. I got it on maybe 3 minutes before the start and Paulie, the race director, was yelling at me to get to the start and I got mad at him and he told me not to bark at him so I had to settle him down w/ a pat on the arm. Race started and we took off. I wanted to run fast. The race was pretty fast, a couple little uphills and lots of downhill. I did okay, sub 8:00 minute pace so not bad but no PR today.

655 out of 2999 overall
15 out of 117 filly
24:32 for 3.1 miles
7:54 minutes per mile

Went to Joshua Tree after the race and had french toast, a mimosa and FREE beer! It was a good time! Made it home around 3pm. I was going to run home but not after all the food and drink. Took the T. Talked to my Mom, she's on her way home from my brother's in Michigan and she's coming to help me move on Friday, and my Dad, he was watching the North Carolina game. The selection show is on right now. Another year of no Syracuse. How can my March get ruined again?? What will I do w/ myself? Root for Kansas State? Maybe. Showered up and packed some stuff to take it over to the new apt. I liked it a little better this time. Found where the washers and dryers are, just a couple doors down from me and they have front-loaders!!!! I HATE top-loaders!!!!!! and I stopped in the City Convenience right next door, it's only open until 11pm but it has Diet Coke, not good candy, but it also has alcohol! Yay!! I saw some pretty good wines, and beer. Was maybe going to go back out tonight but I'm tired and maybe could get more work done. Plus I don't want to be hungover tomorrow. I don't have much time left to get my presentation done for Wed. and I have to run 12 miles tomorrow.

Will have a quiet night instead.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day

RABIES, CANINE - FRANCE (02): INVESTIGATION

A ProMED-mail post http://www.promedmail.org ProMED-mail is a program of the International Society for Infectious Diseases http://www.isid.org

[1] Date: Fri 14 Mar 2008 Source: Eurosurveillance edition 2008; 13(11) [edited] http://www.eurosurveillance.org/edition/v13n11/080313_1.asp

Identification of a rabid dog in France illegally introduced from Morocco

Introduction

On 26 Feb 2008, the National Reference Centre for Rabies at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, France, confirmed the diagnosis of rabies in a domestic dog living in Grandpuits, Seine-et-Marne district, a suburb of Paris. The dog was a 9 month old mixed-breed female, named Cracotte (pictures available at http://www.invs.sante.fr/display/?doc=surveillance/rage/actu.htm.)

It developed its 1st symptoms on 15 Feb 2008, had bitten its owner and one neighbour and was euthanized on 19 Feb 2008. The viral strain was identified by the National Reference Centre for Rabies as a strain belonging to Lyssavirus genotype 1, Africa 1 lineage, originating from Morocco. According to its owner, Cracotte had never been outside France. France has been declared officially rabies-free since 2001 [see comment]. An investigation was undertaken to identify the source of infection and modes of transmission for Cracotte in order to identify potentially exposed individuals and animals and to carry out an assessment of the risk of rabies virus transmission in France.

I have to go to this!

I love A Chorus Line!!!!! I could care less about Mario Lopez but I want to see it.

Diana, wanna go?? Anyone else?

Plus, Cirque du Soleil is coming back to Boston!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the kool kids talked to me at track

Haha, I sent him a bunch of emails today to get our race report and results posted from the 30K. I ran all that way and wanted some credit! So at practice tonight he waved at me and said nice job on the race and we had a whole conversation. Normally we don't really speak much more then Hi. Guess I got my credit.

Track was great tonight though I had to run solo. I did the workout for those not racing this weekend even though I am racing, because it's only a 5K, but Jake and Raelee said Coach said even if you're just doing a 5K to do the shorter workout. I didn't want short, I wanted longer so I was solo because Jake and Raelee did the shorter workout. I had to do 4 1600s which I thought would be tough but I held my pace and ran 7:30, 7:33, 7:31 and 7:28. Maybe in the 5K this weekend I can hold 7:30 pace and shoot for a PR. I think my best is 23:19 (7:31 pace) and I was in better shape then so maybe it's not possible yet. We'll see on Sunday.

Got the keys to my apt. today to start moving in Saturday. I got a copy of the lease too but the landlord didn't sign the lease, he only signed the 'to my knowledge there's no lead in the place' form. Man, $1100 for this realtor! Can't I get the lease signed for that price??

The Beverly 30K: BAC Challenge

I already talked a little about it but today Tara wrote a nice little race report that I will post w/ my results. Here's the website for the race w/ links to full results.

A ten dollar registration fee. Sounds great right? On Sunday, March 9th some CRCers drove to the beautiful town of Beverly to race the 30k and 10.5k (yes odd number). Well now we know why some registrations are so cheap and some aren't. Water stops were just that. Water. Oh and sometimes no cups! Hey we have a huge container o' water, but good luck figuring out how to drink it when you're around mile 15 :) Ok despite the mockery and jokes, the race itself was a tough but great challenge--gusts of wind especially along the 4 mile run right next to the ocean. We passed quaint beaches, elaborate estates and a few volunteers spacing out as we ask "which way? left? right?" Don't expect a cheering crowd but if you can enjoy the beauty that Beverly offers, it's a great race. The strong winds made this race against your thought of a PR.

One poor CRCer sprained her knee toward the end of the race, and still was bold enough to run the last few miles in agony. And she still beat many other runners...hope you're healing quick Joslynn. Definitely a no-frills type of race. Water and other basic fruit were provided at the end. You'll see me doing this race again next year. I'll bring my own Gatorade thank you.

I had a funny email exchange w/ the race director because my race packet got lost somehow when I went to pick it up so I had to email him to see about getting the shirt I paid extra for. The email he sent me was hilarious:

Hello Heather
I apologize for the race packet.
WOW # 3!!! you must be seeded for next year!!!

Q: Should I produce the race again next year?

I will get the shirt to you.

I also apologize for any lack of water or course markers that may have caused any race problems for you.
HAP

Dude, this guy is crazy, I was nowhere near #3. What is he talking about?

RobReed wants me to post about SU losing BIG in the 1st round Big East Tourney

but I didn't even know they had played. I assumed it started tomorrow, until I just saw on the TV guide that the Big East Tourney was on ESPN tonight so I assumed SU played tonight and I was happy to get to watch it tonight, and then I just checked my email and saw RR's comment that they had lost. I don't even want to look it up and since I didn't see the game or know anything about it, I have no comment.

I'm just tired from helping out w/ a cardiac physiology lab today from 7am-5pm and getting to put a purse-string suture in the heart to secure the catheter I placed in the left ventricle as the heart beat 400 beats per minute. My eyes are sooooo tired right now but glad I got to do it!

I use frozen peas too

just not on my girl parts though. Works well on my neck! I think this is a great idea. If I was a guy I'd be very excited to recuperate w/ my March Madness, hopefully my team would make it in though.

Basketball and no babies, yay!

If I die...

RobReed, you have to take care of Cleo! For real, sorry, but she loves you so much.

Right now I'm sitting in my office and the fire alarm is going full blast non-stop, just a constant awful noise that is killing my ears. Good thing Jennie put her scarf over the alarm in our office because it's too loud, it's still loud w/ the scarf but blood isn't pouring out of my ears yet.

About 15 min. ago this voice came over the intercom saying there was an emergency and to evacuate so we all took the stairs down the 8 flights, we're on the top, and it was painful for me after my 18.6 mile race yesterday. So we're standing outside watching for the okay to go back in and my boss says he thinks it's okay to go back and he has an important phone call so we all follow him into the elevator as the alarms are still going off and make it to the 8th floor, him assuring us we'll be okay :0) Now I'm in my office and this alarm is still going!!! I'm gonna go deaf!

Weekend Recap: Dogs, I wish you would stop peeing and pooping!

I'd like some kind of peace when I spend most of my weekend at home w/ you guys.

I basically decided that until my vacation beginning of April I'm not going to go out so I can get more work done, or at least be in a state to get more work done, regardless if I actually do, and maybe in the process I'll save some money too.

Friday night I was going to stay at work late but it was a crazy week w/ the boss on my butt all week and then everyone else in the office left by 5 so I think I took off at 5:30. Cleo and I did 3 miles then I hung out at home. Oh, I cooked stuff which for me is crazy. I made a trip to Whole Foods and actually bought stuff. I cooked up a ton of carrots, and baked some butternut squash and made myself a burger w/ my $18/lb. Spanish goat milk cheese. Forget what else I really did, some x-training in my room and watching TV.

Got up Saturday morning with plans to go to work most of the day. Wanted to get some laundry done first though. Did a bunch of laundry, so many trips, can't wait for my new place and laundry on my floor!, though I don't know if they have front-loaders like the laundromat. I hate top-loaders!!!!! Laundry took forever and it was raining the whole time. By the time I was done I just didn't feel like going outside anymore. Didn't make it to work. Just did stuff, what I don't really remember, oh, catch up on 'Lost' and watched 'Monsoon Wedding.' I've been to one Indian wedding. It was crazy and lots of fun! My friend Sham had an arranged marriage basically, he's a smarty engineer and she's a pediatrician. Haven't seen them in awhile but last time I did they had a little baby. Not sure what's happened since. They live in Boston but we don't keep in touch.

Made a spaghetti dinner last night because I had a big race today. Made whole wheat pasta w/ spinach, sliced almonds, cranberries and my Spanish cheese grated. Didn't have a sauce so it was kinda dry but good anyway. Wanted to go to bed early because I had to rest for the race but didn't fall asleep until about 1:30 and then took the dog out around 3:30 and then had to get up at 7:45 but forgot about daylight savings so luckily Tara texted me at 6:45 which was now 7:45 so I lost an hour of sleep there. I was pissed! Didn't sleep much or well last night. Got up for the run, met Tara and Jos at Central. It was fucking crazy windy out!!!! Got to the race in Beverly w/ plenty of time. Somehow they lost my race packet and number so they had to give me a new number but I paid extra for a shirt and they said I could get it later. I guess I have to contact them about it. Race started at 10am. It was a 30K (18.6 miles). One of the draws for this race is it's only $10. But that means just water on the course, and I didn't get any after about mile 14 because there was either no water or no cups for the water. Some parts of the race were so fucking windy, I couldn't believe this was for real and I still had 10 miles or 9 miles or 8 miles, etc. to go, I could barely push through the wind. I was doing okay most of the race, not pushing too hard and staying under 10 min miles. I wanted to break 3 hrs but I must have really slowed down the last couple miles because I finished about 3 hrs 4 minutes. Still sub-10 min/mile pace which is fine w/ me for 18.6 miles. Jos ended up getting injured during the race. She finished but sprained her knee so we took off real quick to get her home, though we stopped at Spuds for some food, this random place in some town outside Boston w/ all old people inside. We got some food and a good rest before getting Jos back home. Now I'm home and very tired and had a nap for about 15 min. Why I woke up so quickly not sure. I feel hungry again too. Returned a bunch of phone calls but no one is home so they'll all call me sometime later when I'm really exhausted and don't want to talk.

Shout outs to two Belgians in two days, who woulda thought

especially after I gave the whole country of Belgium "Today's Fuck You."

Yesterday it was Tom, today it's Kristof Ongenaet.

I'm afraid to post anything positive about SU before the game is over but this kid just had two big plays, and I didn't even know who he was. I haven't really been paying much attention since they've sucked this year and been plagued w/ injuries so they're forced to go deep in the lineup. If they can win this game against #20 Marquette we're still alive and have the Big East Tourney next. Right now we're up by 10. Nice to see Billy Owens at the game!

UPDATE: Yay! We won, by 15. Next up, MSG!!!!! Who wants to go??

Thanks Tom!! Yes you did make me happy :0)

I got a great email treat from Tom AKA the1stwarrior today.

Wish I was there for the performance!!

Hey Heather,

May I introduce myself? I’m the1stwarrior known as Tom in real life.

I saw you posted a video of mine of few weeks ago with a link to my site. Thank you for that.

But maybe I can make you happy with something else. I just put a recording on Youtube, which I recorded a few weeks ago, from Aaron singing solo your favorite song I’m A Believer. Maybe something to put on your site.

I learned a lesson, not sure if it's the right one...

but I asked about going on vacation beginning of April and ever since then I've gotten slammed everyday w/ this experiment and that experiment all to be set up before I go on vacation. It's maddening! My big exp. first time point is getting pushed up from May to end of March. I'm also supposed to set up another exp. asap, and some assays asap, and do this presentation and that presentation all by the end of March. Vacation isn't really planned yet, it's kinda up in the air, so we'll see what happens, if I can fit it all in, plus move to my new apt. this month too, and my mom is coming to help and i have races planned on the weekends in March, not much time to get it all done and I don't want to be sleep-deprived either :0(

Today Ella Rae turns 3 years old!!

Gotta keep my readers pleased!

Dear "Heather Martin Reporting The News",

Long time reader, first time writer. I feel compelled to respond to a comment one of your writers made in a recent edition of your normally splendid weblog. By which, I mean you. Yes, I gave you "crap" about the photos of "David D." and I will continue to give you crap anytime you post these pictures. I demand equal time. If you're gonna post these photos, provide some balance. How about near nude photos of Scully? I think it is only fair. Me and my 12 children will continue to pray for eternal soul. Hallaleujah. Take care and God bless you, you old heathen sinner.
Peace and chicken grease,
M.

Have to get this post in before midnight.

These are the best David D pics so I can't help linking again.

Last time I got some crap from some boys like Mark I think so maybe this time you'll enjoy them even more than last time, haha!

Weekend Recap: Cleo, stop whining!

I don't know what's wrong w/ her but she keeps whining. All last night she whined and rr had to give her all sorts of attention and petting for her to shut up and she ended up sleeping w/ him because in my room she just kept whining. Her skin issues are not getting better. Ears are a mess, belly's a mess and maybe she has a UTI? She needs to see a vet (other than me I mean).

I've been copying Jos lately w/ all my YouTube videos but I like it. So for this post here's the song, Tracy Chapman 'Baby Can I Hold You.' 'The Promise' is good too if you want to listen to that after.

I wasn't going to do anything but work this weekend. I need to get my paper done. So I stayed at work Friday night just until 8p working on it because Jos asked to go to a movie so I said okay. We saw 4 months 3 weeks and 2 days. It was good but I didn't think that good to win so many awards. All about a girl getting an illegal abortion in a hotel room in Romania late 80s. I won't say much about it in case you might see it. I read after the movie that abortion was illegal there because they were trying to increase their population. I guess I'm glad it's legal here but it still seems like it's a pain in the ass to actually get one so hopefully none of you have to. After the movie went to Tommy Doyle's for some food. Thought I was hungrier than I was. Ate my chili but could barely eat the salad, maybe because the salad didn't taste so good and it was huge. Jos and I were good and went right home. That's when I had trouble falling asleep.

Got up Saturday morning to snow and rain. Did lots of laundry and ran in the rain while the laundry was going. After that got to work. Spent a good 6 hrs or so at work and actually got some stuff done w/ my paper. Went home and thought about going out. Did some x-training in my undies in my room while Cleo kept whining and chatted online w/ db. When I have my own place I can more readily walk around in my undies. That'll be good! Ended up not going out, fell asleep at some point and woke about 8:30a.

Had a big run of 16 miles planned for today. Was going to meet Jake at the BU Bridge at 11:30a. Made the mistake of eating fibery cereal at 11p last night. Not the best food choice but I barely ate yesterday and needed some energy for the run today and that was about all I had for food at home. So I had to wait to go running until my tummy was fit. Left my house around 10:20a, BU Bridge is only 3 miles from my house so it was too early to meet Jake so I kept going down Comm Ave. to Washington and then came back to the bridge and met Jake. I had done about 7 at that point and he'd done about 8. So we kept going back out Comm Ave. into Newton and over Heartbreak Hill. We turned around at Centre St. and then ran back almost to the BU Bridge. It was about 16 for me and 17 for him. I mapped it out when I got home and it actually said 16.5. So from that point we both took the T home. I went inbound and Jake outbound, he lives in Brighton. Got home and was freezing by that point. Took a shower but it's never hot enough after I run so far. I have lots of trouble regulating my body temp after long runs plus I noticed a big bruise on my leg I don't know what from and it hurts to touch. Eventually made it to work but didn't get much done. Tried to video chat w/ db but didn't work. Now it's after 7 and I should go home. I'm so tired from the run. I printed out my paper, I can also take a look at home. I'll have to fill in all the details at work tomorrow. I need to talk to some people to get some info and look up some of the reagents and things I used.

That's it. All in all I had a kinda productive weekend which is better than my usual too much drinking, going out self. Not conducive to running far and getting work done.

I got to get King and I Chef's Tofu on the way home from work. I wanted to get it after my run but it doesn't open until 5p on Sundays. It's yummy and good for me! Tofu and brown rice and bean sprouts, oh my! Sorry, I forgot I'm not in Kansas anymore :0)

Hope you all have a good first week of March! Better weather is on the way :0)

Sorry Jimmy B, I feel for ya!

SU lost again tonight on a stolen inbounds pass, are you kidding me???

jimmybpitt

Guess my favorite month of March is going to be ruined again this year. What happened to my team?

Update: I just got done watching video highlights. We got screwed on that play basically. We were fouled on the steal and no call. Plus we shot 58.8% from the field, and still lost, wtf!

A special treat from Belgium

Dear Leader doing 'Raging Red' w/ some GNR thrown in, I'm sure just for me!

Gotta give credit to the1stwarrior. Check it for more videos and pics.

Life hasn't changed that much really. At least I'm still running long.

Oh, you look so tired...

A perfectly beautiful song from Moz, Jack the Ripper

Oh you look so tired
mouth slack and wide
ill housed and ill advised
your face is as mean
as your life has been

Crash into my arms
I want you
you don't agree
but you don't refuse
I know you

And I know a place
where no one is likely to pass
you don't care if it's late
and you don't care if you're lost

And oh you look so tired
but tonight you presume too much
too much, too much
and if it's the last thing I ever do
I'm going to get you

Crash into my arms
I want you
you don't agree
but you don't refuse
I know you

Crash into my arms
I want you
you don't agree
but you don't refuse
I know you

Dear Percocet,

You're supposed to make me fall asleep, not keep me awake.

Sincerely,
Heather R Martin

I took a couple before I tried to fall asleep, I'm having some bad neck/back pain and I thought it would help. I threw away my robaxin so this was all I had for now. I'm afraid it's stress-related but the orthopedic doc told me last time if this happened again I'd have to refer to the surgeon and maybe have the awful cervical surgery. No! Don't make me!!

I was watching a DVD before bed and falling asleep so I thought I'd have no problem going to be. Decided to take 2 percocet to help w/ my pain and to sleep easier but all it did was make my brain go crazy and think lots of things and now I'm having trouble trying to settle down and sleep w/ all these ideas in my head. Tomorrow is supposed to be a big day for me. I have grand plans to write lots of my paper and get back into a good working mode. I have lots of other things I want to accomplish tomorrow too mostly work-related and some big life-changing things as well but I'd rather not elaborate until I get some of them squared away. I think I've found the courage to address some things that have been hanging over me for quite some time now but maybe it's just the drugs talking so who knows by morning what I'll be feeling. I wanted to go to bed early and get up early to run, do laundry and get to work, but now it's 2am and though I feel sleepy, I'm antsy as well.

Well, I guess I'll at least try to relax and fall asleep. Wish me luck tomorrow! Hopefully I'll have some good news to share later on.

Thanks for stopping by!
